About us

As a result of the R+D project we have formulated the following objectives:

Our goals:

• elaboration of the biological methodology of the treatment of communal sewage sludge using earthworm species suitable for the purpose;
• production of vermicompost to be used for improving extreme soil types and to replace artificial fertilizers exerting a considerable load one the environment (potting soil prototypes), and
• finally, analysis of the possibility of the use of the earthworms produced in the composting process as animal feed.

In the first six months of our research activities we have performed the following:

• comparative analyses of various sludge treatment technologies
• launching the research line of the comparative testing of the stock of various redworm or brandling worm (Eisenia fetida) species, something we wish to continue throughout the entire term of the project so that we had the opportunity to monitor as many factors as possible;
• installation of instruments, and the elaboration of a model by the help of which multivariate analyses of the impact of environmental factors on the decomposition of sludge can be performed and the start of modelling. According to our plans we shall gather the relevant data throughout the entire term of the project, so that reliability of the statistical results and conclusions could be improved.
